-NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS-
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW/PIP). My family and I have lived in Decatur for over 25 years. I am a wife (for over 38 years), a mother, a sister, a friend and “Fur Mom” to my dear JoJo. My formal educational experience is an MSW from Alabama A&M University and a BSW from Auburn University.
I have over 25 years experience in various social work and counseling fields of service including child and adult welfare, family preservation, family strengthening and social work administration. I am experienced in the facilitation of community and faith based small groups, grief groups and individual counseling sessions. I have a strong belief and commitment to both a personal and professional non-judgemental perspective. My professional mission is to be a safe and supportive listening ear for those who are struggling.
I have always had a passion to help others succeed and have spent much of my adult life in service to individuals and families. My personal experience can be traced back into childhood when I experienced my first rudimentary social work intervention. I truly believe this work is my life calling, not simply a calculated choice.
Perhaps more importantly, I am a person who knows what it is like to experience suffering, loss and the unanticipated consequences of complicated grief. I also have benefitted from positive personal support, the challenge of “beginning again” and the challenge of being truly understood. My mantra is “as long as there is breath, there is hope”. Helping others to find hope restored is an unexpected gift during this season of my life.
As a therapist, I view mental health as something that is always evolving. We often benefit from unique personal strengths, challenges and capacities while simultaneously we are affected by the environments where we experience life. We are persons in situations such as relationships, family, community and more. The dynamic experience of “doing life in these situations” may produce challenges to optimal personal functioning. Change is the ONE thing that life will always consistently provide. Learning to adjust and thrive through the change can allow us to experience higher levels of personal satisfaction and happiness.
In my office, I strive to create an environment that is safe for all. My goal is to make space to truly hear the suffering, struggles and triumphs of those who present. To bear witness to the story and in the hearing to allow light shine in the dark spaces. It is in the light that healing can begin.
