-NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS-
I graduated from Troy University with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health in 2012. I am from the Wiregrass area. The majority of my counseling experience has been working with and around children from age three and up. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the beautiful state of Alabama. I am currently pursuing my certification to become a Registered Play Therapist.
My background consists of working in private practice along with non-profit, state, and federally funded programs that help serve our wonderful children across Alabama. Before joining the team here at Grand Oaks, I most recently worked for a Head Start Program as an educational coach and thoroughly enjoyed working with staff, families, and most especially the children of that program.
I do enjoy working with children, spending time with family and friends, volunteering, traveling, and being outside around nature.
I have had the honor of working with all age groups through counseling and find myself drawn to working with children the most. It is a great privilege to be able to work alongside children in helping to improve their overall social and emotional well-being. Along with supporting them in knowing how special and meaningful they are. I find most children thrive once they come to understand they are loved, valued, and have a real purpose in life.
I find that most clients feel most comfortable using cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe in using a simple yet eclectic approach to counseling, depending on the individual client and supporting their needs. It is an approach that is client-centered, holistic, and strengths-based. I also, from time to time, incorporate other therapy techniques into counseling from Mindfulness, Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Reality Therapies. I do incorporate play and art therapy activities into counseling sessions. I find that both play and art can be therapeutic for anyone of any age. I also find that doing so helps to support children, especially in being able to communicate their wants and needs to others. I want to help my clients overcome challenges they may be facing. And/or develop coping skills they could use in their everyday lives.
I feel it’s important for the client to feel comfortable and relaxed in therapy. In my office, I would hope that clients feel free to express themselves, their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. While feeling safe and secure enough to communicate their desires, wants, and needs. It is a journey of their experiences, their feelings, and their life. It could be a process of healing and growth. Or a journey of exploration and betterment.
