Meet our Staff

The majority of my counseling experience has been working with children ages three and up. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and am currently pursuing my certification to become a Registered Play Therapist. My background consists of working in private practice along with non-profit, state, and federally funded programs that help serve children across the state. I incorporate play and art therapy activities into my counseling sessions. I find that both play and art can be therapeutic for anyone of any age. Learn more and schedule with Anna here!

 I have always had a passion to help others succeed and have spent much of my adult life in service to individuals and families. My personal experience can be traced back into childhood when I experienced my first rudimentary social work intervention. I truly believe this work is my life calling, not simply a calculated choice.  Perhaps more importantly, I am a person who knows what it is like to experience suffering, loss and the unanticipated consequences of complicated grief.   Michele Hicks is our Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). She has been practicing nursing since 2011.  She became a nurse educator working in universities and colleges, later becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2017.  She has experience in primary care, urgent care, occupational medicine, and psychiatry.   She likes engaging with people and finds the best approach to medicine is to serve as a guide for patients looking to better their health and well-being. She currently lives in the Madison area with her husband, two cats and two dogs.  Learn more here!

 I am the owner of Grand Oaks Counseling and a practicing therapist licensed for the State of Alabama. I hold a BS in Psychology from Athens State University, a MA in Clinical Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Post-Master's certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Grand Canyon University. In addition to my formal education, I am also trained in EMDR therapy for trauma and have a certification in religious trauma.  I consider mental health and wholeness inseparable and believe the best therapy takes into account all parts of a person, and their environment, and teaches clients to do the same.  Learn more here!

I am the front desk receptionist at Grand Oaks Counseling and the first person you'll come in contact with when you reach out! I have a BS in Psychology from Athens State University and  am currently enrolled at UNA, pursuing a Master's in Clinical Counseling. I enjoy this field and learning as much as possible within it. I have a passion for people and their hearts, so being the first person someone sees when they come in and being the last person they see when they leave is a joy to me.
