-NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS WITH EVENING APPOINTMENTS-
I graduated from Athens State University with a Bachelor of Science in 2013 and with my Master of Arts, Ed. in School Counseling from the University of North Alabama in 2017.
I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors as well as an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) with the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling, and I am working under the supervision of Leslie L. Phillips. I have a broad background in the public service industry. I have worked with and advocated for children and their families since 2014. I am a former school counselor and have worked as a mental health counselor for more than 3 years. I am currently pursuing certification to provide equine therapy and hope to incorporate that into my private practice work by the end of 2024.
When I'm not at work, I find joy in being in my garden, spending time with horses, reading a good book, or traveling.
It is my belief that success and life satisfaction not only varies from person to person, but it is also very fluid - changing with each of us individually across our lifespan. I practice with the belief to continuously meet each client in their “here and now." I believe that all people are capable of creating positive change within their lives if they are ready to do so. I have a special passion for empowering clients to advocate for themselves and their children medically and academically.
I take an integrative approach, utilizing techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play therapy activities, bibliotherapy (books -especially with children), art therapy activities, Person-Centered therapy, and a multicultural approach.
My primary goal is to provide every client that enters my office with a safe, inclusive, and confidential space to explore and discover who they are; identify when they feel their best self; and develop positive skills in order to move toward the life they desire.
See our Rates Page for more information on the rates of different therapists in our practice and the ways Grand Oaks Counseling is committed to helping individuals for whom finances may prevent access to the care you need.
I am available for individual, family, and parent/caregiver support sessions either via telehealth or in person at my office in Decatur. If you would like to schedule an appointment or talk further about the ways I could help, call our office at Grand Oaks Counseling (256-542-1482) and ask to schedule with Cindy. I look forward to hearing from you.
